Photography has been a way of life for Kim Brown for 40 years. After attending Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Kim established himself professionally in portraiture, wedding and architectural photography, and commercial advertising.
He has taught courses in basic photography and technique to such diverse groups as continuing education classes at community centers, law enforcement agencies, medical personnel, local and state agencies, and church groups. His workshops have taken area art guilds on location to practice lighting, composition, and camera technique.
As Adjunct Professor, Kim has taught Beginning Photography and Art Appreciation for Non-Art Majors at the Texas Tech School of Art, and Intermediate Photography in the Mass Communications Department at Texas Tech University. More recently, he has taught Beginning and Intermediate Photography and a Studio Art Practicum in the Fine Arts Department at South Plains College.
In addition to being a lifelong photographer, Mr. Brown is a Certified Camera Repair Technician and owned his own camera repair business for ten years. Prior to that, Kim managed a successful retail camera store for 20 years.
Artistically, Kim's medium is black and white photography. Although not opposed to digital media, he prefers the traditional medium of film and prints all his own work. Beyond all other photographic pursuits, the challenge of fine art, black and white photography gives the greatest satisfaction. He never travels anywhere without a camera and can frequently be seen at the roadside taking a photograph or heading down a dusty back-road in photographic pursuit.
